For you millennials out there, in case you didn't catch the reference...
Although Dolly Parton wrote the original song in 1973 - based on something that really happened to her, by the way - the version I prefer is the cover that Olivia Newton-John did in 1976. Probably because that was the version I heard first. It played all the time on the radio around that time, my teenage years. IMHO the ONJ version sounds more piercing and heartfelt, although ironically the event actually happened to DP! Not that the DP version is anything to be sneezed at.
Anyhow, now there is no need to choose. You can have the best of both worlds. In 2022, shortly before Olivia Newton-John passed away, she recorded a duet with Dolly Parton. Here it is, the combined firepower of the two formidable ladies:
