The week before Christmas, we had gone to the town of Colmar, in the region of Alsace, for the Christmas market. Alsace is a region of France bordering Germany, with heavy German influences. It passed hands a couple of times between Germany and France, down the ages. Most of the placenames are German, as is the cuisine and architecture. The people speak French, but with a heavy Alascsian accent.
I am not much of a lad for the Christmas market. That was more of Blandine's thing. These are basically lines of kiosks selling Christmas bric-à-brac and ferris wheels. Here are a couple of pictures of the Christmas market itself:-
Once I had a glass of warm spiced wine (called Gluhwein here, as in Germany. The French call it Vin Chaud), I was more or less done with the market.
While Blandine shopped around, I looked around at the architecture, and the Christmas décorations on the buildings...
